Well first question is, who is PMS?
Purple Monkey Sircus is a hip-hop trio from Cleveland Heights, OH including members Johnny Thirdboy, Mitchx10(producer) and Qx3rd. Purple Monkey Sircus released their first project entitled, "MMMxBeats & RnR are The Purple Monkey Sircus" with the world renown disc jockey 'Mick Boogie'.
Q, who went by the stage-name 'RnR' or 'The Realest in Rap' at the time, and Money Makin' Mitch originally intended the project to be released as an ep, but due to following events decided to unleash the project as a mixtape. On January 13th, 2009, the project was released and instantly received an great amount of publicity & excellent reviews.
we all went to School together etc..we just smoke & make music lol
I know that the producer only makes the beats, but have you ever thought about going in on a track?
(mitchx10) I've been on a track or two, expect more in the future on our next projects. Sometimes i just like being behind the scenes.
Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
We've performed countless times @ the grog shop in Cleveland Heights, The 20/20 Martini Lounge in Cleveland, & have a couple upcoming college shows at campuses across Ohio. Shows are the most fun part out of all of this, we really get to connect with fans and win new fans over. We're passing out joints to the front row from now on. Anywhere with a big stage and wireless Mic's are favorites of ours.
In some of your tracks, there are samples from another song. What are some of the characteristics you look for when sampling a song?
(mitchx10) I constantly buy vinyls and download albums of 60's-80's classic rock, soul & funk music. When i hear a track i'm going to sample, I know it immediately, you can just feel it. What i look for are nice breaks, solos, vocal runs..just anything that i know i can get creative with add my own style to.
Could you breifly describe the music making process?
We get high and write songs, then head to the studio and record them lol. Thats pretty much it hahaha.
This a question that I'm sure EVERYONE wants to know, where did you guys figure up the name Purple Monkey Sircus?
Purple Monkey Sircus was originally the name of a song, then later became the Name of our first mixtape. After we dropped the tape there was a lot of confusion and people thought we were a group and that was our name. The first tape was intended to just be an EP with Q rapping and Mitch's beats. As the tape got more and more popular we decided to just form a group and take things seriously and PMS was born.
Are PMS and Tezo a collabo, or just for this mixtape?
Tezo is our brother, a lot of artist in Cleveland dont realize the key to success in this shit is sticking together. So we roll with Tez, he makes AMAZING music. (Loud Pack mixtape coming soon!)
You guys are very public about loving to smoke (weed) and its evident in your song, 'BabyMama Kush' which i love, but do you guys smoke whenever you make any songs? Because i know Lil Wayne does it and his songs always come out great.
Smoking is just and everyday thing to us, so if we happen to write a song or record while we happen to be smoking thats just how it works out. We're hippies though, and smoking just really keeps us grounded and opens our minds, we dont just smoke to 'get high'.
This question is for Q and Johnny. How old were you when you knew that Hip-Hop and rapping was going to become your passion?
Qx3rd- 2nd grade, seven years old.
Johnny - 4th grade I was nine years old. I knew I was going to be a God
Does you guys family support the mixtape and your business desicions?
(Q & Johnny) Not at all, well not completely. They don't believe it as much as we do.
(Mitch) My mom is always supportive, has come to the shows and everything. My dad has no idea about our music or PMS lol, he just thinks I sit around on my laptop and keyboard wasting my life away.
What genre of music to do you consider your music to be? Who are your musical influences? (Each anwser individually)
Hip-Hop. We've been described as A Tribe Called Quest on drugs, Shwayze with better lyrics & a Teenage Midwest Outkast.
What image do you think your music conveys?
I think our music is for the everyday kid out there who smokes, likes fly shit & good music. We have fun living life and doing what we love and people can take from it whatever they like. Thats the beauty of it.
Whats the ultimate direction for your band?
Up.
Who is your fan/customer? Who do you want to get the most out of your powerful music?
Our fans are pretty much cute ass college girls, model bitches. And all types of bitches lmao.
Seriously its really mostly young people with a ear for different unique music, stoners, cool kids, loner kids, the underdogs. Mostly Highschool & College kids. We love our listeners and its dope getting on stage and seeing all types of people in the crowd.
Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?
We're aren't looking for any deal, if we get a good offer we'll consider it but as of now we're cool with doing everything on our own. It will be cool to see our hard work pay off, everything we do it completely out of pocket and it sucks sometimes but we all know it'll be worth it.
10 years down the road, where do you see PMS in the music industry??
We will be the rawest group that everyone hasn't heard of. We're better than the Beatles. Take that.
So there you have ittt, PMS, a group of Confident, Determined, and Driven young guys who are making a breakthrough in Cleveland music.
