1) Tell VC readers who you are and a little about your life before becoming a stylist?
I am Matthew Anderson, a 27 year old wardrobe stylist living in New York City. I'm very creatively driven and do this because it is my passion. I always feel when you've found your calling in life you'll never get bored or tired of what you do, everyday is a new adventure and you should seize it. I have an effortless eye for style which makes this job second nature for me. I believe true style comes from within, you cannot teach or learn that. Either you have it or you don't. Before becoming a stylist I was heavy into acting & the performing arts. Still creative but just in a different faucet. One day fashion took me over and I never looked back.
2) Who or what first inspired you to become a stylist?
2) Who or what first inspired you to become a stylist?
Well when I was younger I went to private schools where you had to wear uniforms. Then finally in high school I started going to public/performing arts school where you could wear whatever you wanted. I used to hate repeating anything, so it made me get creative. People would always like what I would wear. As the year progressed I would push the envelop more & more with my look. Others taking notice started to ask me to dress them, thats when I knew I was onto something so why not turn it into a career.
3) Do you think the classes you took in college help mold your creative work now?

10) What advice do you have for anyone who wants to break into the very competitive styling industry?
10) What advice do you have for anyone who wants to break into the very competitive styling industry?
Always look the part. No one should ever have to guess what you do. They should be able to look at you and know you're a stylist. Also build strong relationships with people, thats what this business is all about. Work very hard because sometimes the people in the game wont make it easy, they'll test you to see if you really want it.
