A ball gown is one of the most elegant formal pieces a woman can wear. They are usually long (ankle length or longer) and drapes the sillouhette. You see celebrities wear them to Oscars and different award shows.
A woman is traditonally wear a ball gown where men are required to wear a White-Tie attire, which is..
- Black tailcoat with silk (grosgrain or satin) facings, horizontally cut-away at the front
- Black trousers with a single stripe of satin or braid in the US or two stripes in Europe; trousers are fish-tail back, thus worn with braces instead of a belt.
- White plain stiff-fronted cotton shirt
- White stiff-winged collar
- White bow tie
- White low-cut waistcoat , matching the bow tie and shirt, which should not extend below the front of the tailcoat)
- Black silk stockings (long socks)
Ball gowns are usually worn with elbow gloves, a NASTY clutch, and some Michelle Obama esque Kitten heels. Speaking of Ms. Bama, look at how she pulls of the Ball Gown look.
Here Ms. Obama is wearing a one shoulder dress. Ball gowns usually are strapless, one shouldered, or spaghetti strapped. The material is the creme de la creme which means silk, lace, taffeta, velvet, and lined with sequins, pearls, ruching, and ruffles.
