Still some beauty admist the war

While it may not be ready to welcome visitors with open arms just yet, like Beirut - which has turned from hell-hole to hotspot seemingly overnight - Iraq is sure to return to it's glorious heyday at some point in the distant future, and when it does we'll be ready with our Louis Vuitton carry-on. Set to throw open its revolving doors in 2012, Rotana Hotels' Shams Rotana will offer five-star opulence in the heart of Baghdad; to comprise 250 sumptuous suites, the hotel will undboutedly set in motion a wave of new openings with competitors wanting a slice of the pie. And that's not all; the posh property will also offer its well-heeled guests a number of destination restaurants and bars, conference facilities, an on-site barber shop and beauty salon, as well as a Bodylines spa and adjoining swimming pool. To be built by Dewan Architects, the hotel will also offer its guests limousine rental so that they can move around the city in true superstar fashion. Hopefully, when peace returns to this deeply scarred city, limousines won't need to be armoured. But for now we can gawp at the idealistic beauty of this project, and hope one day to glide through its marble lobby feeling safe, and, as always, super stylish.
